A Welsh Colliery Centenary Badge
This badge was issued in 1989 to commemorate both the centenary and closure of Marine Colliery. This Welsh colliery commenced sinking in 1889 and finally came into production in 1891. At the time of its closure in 1989 it was one of the last deep mines operating in South Wales.
Actual badge measures 20 mm diameter has a pin attachment on its reverse. Also on its reverse is the maker's name "Toye, Kenning & Spencer" (picture courtesy of John Soppitt).
