Durham & Northumberland Colliery Fire & Rescue Brigade Cap Badge

This rare and very large ornamental badge was once mounted on the front of a crested black helmet (similar to the old style British firemen's helmets) worn by the members of the Durham & Northumberland Colliery Fire & Rescue Brigade (D & N C.F.R.B.).  The badge is thought to date to the period 1900 to 1940s. The badge depicts the coats of arms of the counties of Durham (left) and Northumberland (right) below which is shown a typical pit head representation. The central design is surrounded by a wreath of laurels.

Tin plated Fire & Rescue Brigade cap badge. Actual badge measures 72 mm by 76 mm.   The badge has a simple slip pin  type attachment device.
