Sacriston & New Herrington N.U.M. Lodges - 1984-85 Strike Badge Re-issues

As part of the on-going celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the 1984-85 Miners' Strike John Soppitt has re-issued both of the badges which he had commissioned just after the original strike. The re-issues are struck off the original obverse badge dies of 1985.

The original issues of these badges are now very rare as John only made 50 examples of the Sacriston plus 100 examples of the New Herrington one struck. It is hoped that the responsible re-issuing of these badges will help many new collectors fill some long vacant gaps in their badge collections. So as no one can pass these re-issues off as original badges of 1985 vintage John has modified the original colour schemes very slightly using chrome where there had originally been guilt enamel. Also the re-issued badges carry the maker's mark "RS" on their reverse sides. This mark was absent on the original badge issues just after the strike.
